I want to write a children's book. The idea came from the Possum that visited my 2nd story small deck at night. I started feeding him/her chicken legs and wings from the diner (left overs) and a bowl of hard cat food and always water. In bad weather I would put blankets outside and made a cave like area for any stray animals that needed some shelter from the storms. Or, just a nice place to sleep, nap and digest their big dinner.
Besides the Possum I heard a noise on my ever-so-popular 2nd floor deck, and took a peek out the window. When I pulled my bamboo blind back I saw a grey furry backend of a big stray cat. Atleast I thought it was a cat. When I whispered, because it was very late at night, I asked through the kitchen door window, "well who are you and where did you come from?", the big grey furry cat turned around from hearing my whispering question, it was indeed NOT a kitty-cat. It was a cat with a mask on it's eyes like a pair of sunglasses or the character "Zorro". A Racoon? I just had to laugh.
So, there now are two wild animals taking comfort, refuge, and soup kitchen priveledges for strays, and obviously ANY stray.
hanging around on my deck, that actually feels as if you are in a treehouse, there in the far backyard was small family of Groundhogs. They are very cute to watch run and stop to eat a fallen crab apple kind of tree, on it's behind, straight up, holding the apple with Groundhog front paws, chomping the apple as we do do with a cob of corn. But they only eat completely around it once, toss it aside, and grab another until the bellies are too full to fit anymore. Then there was the black bear, yearling...
My son Brian and I were just sitting on our "tree house" like deck and we heard many loud desperate voices. Curious we went down the deck stairs and followed the voices and find out what all the excitement was about. "Ma'am go back home immediately, there is a bear in your backyard up in the trees", the man with a gun, that shoots medicine from it, to quickly help them relax enough to capture. We then ran back up to our deck and watched while the men with medicine guns caught the young bear and took it to a veterinarian. From there they drove it to a place up in the far mountains. There the young bear will not be in danger of cars and other possible tragedies.
